Last Light
The first book in Blackstock's Restoration series literally begins with a bang: airplanes fall out of the sky in the opening paragraphs, at which point the novel's protagonists and readers become swept up in a stunning set of circumstances, the import of which slowly sink in as the novel briskly moves forward. Unlike the deluge of dramatic depictions of the end times, in which Christians disappear and the world reacts, this story focuses on a natural phenomenon-albeit one that most of the characters believe is a message from God-that profoundly alters human society. . .this novel is in league with first-rate adventure fiction and bodes well for the series to come.

Last Light
...In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the New Orleans disaster, Blackstock's novel is chillingly realistic in spite of its unique premise. Civilization breaks down in a short time in catastrophic situations. Her description of that environment is so strong that a couple of times I caught myself checking to see that my computer was still working.

Character drives this novel, and Blackstock demonstrates both the good and the foibles in the best of characters. She draws these characters with such a fine touch that I wanted to reach into the book and shake the kids and at other times I stayed awake worrying about Deni's decisions ... As a longtime fan of Blackstock's writing, I think this one of her spiritually deepest, most thought-provoking, and best novels yet. It made me take a second and third look at my own whining, complaining, and techno-dependency. Bravo, Terri!

Last Light
This is a far more powerful concept than Blackstock has tackled in previous series. The depravity of human nature is exposed, as well as the contradiction of trying to live by the Sermon on the Mount while basic survival is in question.

Once you finish reading Last Light, you'll find yourself walking around your comfortable home, wondering: What would I do if this were all taken away? What would my neighbors do? And when is the next book in this series coming out? Highly Recommended.
